The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) works with organizations around the world to develop strategies, guidelines, and resources to help make the Web accessible to people with disabilities.

The W3C (WorldWide Web Consortium) introduced the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) in a bid to help developers produce and evaluate accessible web content.

Although primarily focused at users with disabilities, Web Accessibility can also help other users. Web Accessibility encourages designing flexible websites and software that caters for different user needs and preferences, for instance using the keyboard to navigate your site instead of using the mouse.
