Welcome

Hi, welcome to the Jumba wiki, let me know if you need any help around the place. Thanks for contributing! Aussiepete

Thanks. I'll find my way around eventually ;-) Scott T

Don't forget to play with your user page - to tell others about yourself and to test some wiki features without messing up any of the actual content pages :) Aussiepete 00:41, 25 May 2007 (EST)
OK. Any suggestions on when to/not to use the minor edit checkbox? Scott T
Generally I just keep it as default (minor edit) -doesn't really make any difference. The only difference is that it displays on the Special:Recentchanges as minor/major. If you make a major change or delete/add heaps of stuff or change a lot of structural setup you can make it a major edit, but either way it's not going to change much! Aussiepete 15:07, 27 May 2007 (EST)
I usually tick Minor when correcting typos, or minor formatting. Major when adding or changing anything significant. It's probably a personal preference thing. Maybe there should be some general guidlines on this for the Jumba wiki? --Twz 17:59, 8 June 2007 (EST)

Sandbox for cPanel

Nice work! I put a comment on the discussion of your sandbox but wasn't sure if you might have seen it :) I'm wondering if this could be taken one step further and have a short one to two liner blurb about each section to summarise or introduce the main tools in that area? Keep it up, I look forward to this contribution being made to other articles also. Aussiepete 15:52, 26 June 2007 (EST)

Thanks! And yes, I did see your previous message. I'm thinking that I'll just get the links sorted out first and then we should be able to add a blurb or something easily enough later :D --Scott T 16:55, 26 June 2007 (EST)

cPanel template

stop! Not to be too alarming :) I reckon having all these options in the cpanel template, as was done with the WHM template, it gets overly (unnecessarily) large. Maybe cull it to the main heading so there's only 5 links OR keep is as you have it and add a "hide/show" link so all you see is "cPanel options - show" Then you can choose to show the big table - I'll look into this for you. Aussiepete 21:01, 26 June 2007 (EST)

Well, it is my sandbox (or personal wiki whiteboard...) I continued on the talk page there - The heading links are looking a good idea. --Scott T 21:39, 26 June 2007 (EST)
Haha yeah it is your sandbox so go for your life with it :) I didn't mean to hit you in the face! I think maybe finish your idea as an option so it's clear how it actually looks for more accurate discussion. Aussiepete 21:49, 26 June 2007 (EST)

Congrats

Although it's only early days, I think you've done a fine job of the cPanel and linking articles and I look forward to seeing what else you pull apart :) Aussiepete 21:16, 26 June 2007 (EST)

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it :p --Scott T 21:19, 26 June 2007 (EST)

Collaboration of the week

I've started a thread on my talk page (User talk:Aussiepete#Collaboration of the week) that I'd like your thoughts on and particularly action made. Cheers Aussiepete 21:56, 26 June 2007 (EST)

This week's collaborative article is: Frequently Asked Questions. Please contribute to this article over the week, and don't forget to vote and discuss next weeks; Vote for week 3 at WAG:Collaboration. Aussiepete 01:35, 30 June 2007 (EST)

show/hide

All I can say is cool, I've been messing around with this one for a while on my other wikis and again here to no avail. Thanks for that! My intention was to add this to the Template:cPanel options that you were working on a version of. I wonder if you'd be able to work out the popups one?? :) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation_popups, with using on external wikis here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation_popups/FAQ#Portability - this is a REALLY helpful editing tool I use with Wikipedia which allows you to preview articles when editing, previewing and viewing without clicking links. It also gives you shortcut links to watch, delete, move manage etc without clicking.)Aussiepete 13:44, 29 June 2007 (EST)

Wow, amazing, great. Thanks heaps! Aussiepete 23:52, 29 June 2007 (EST)

Jumba Services

Can you offer your thoughts on the Jumba_Services page? see the Proposed_talk:Jumba_Services#Decision_on_this_article --Twz 00:24, 3 July 2007 (EST)

Deleting articles

Just use the template {{delete|reason}} where reason is a brief description as to why the article/template/image should be deleted. For some articles that have a bit of content in them, they can be moved to the Archive namespace (eg. to move Jumba, move it to Archive:Jumba). Some items don't need to be discussed for deletion, just go ahead and do it if it's obvious. Once you've tagged articles, they will show up in Category:Delete for all to see at a glance and individually discuss or take action. Let me know if you need any further clarification. Peter

The sysop options (protect, delete, move) give you a confirmation screen where you can give a reason for deleting. Then the page is still available in the deleted pages which can then be restored by another admin. Protecting a page (such as the main page) stops unregistered users or non admins from editing sensitive pages, only the main page is protected but hot topics can also cause edit wars, not on this wiki though. You can also move articles that might suit a better naming convention, this redirects the old page. Peter 13:31, 2 February 2008 (EST)

You are now a sysop

I keep forgetting admin rights are to delete/move etc. I've upgraded your account to admin/sysop so go for your life. Obviously it's a privilege to have admin rights so if they're abused they will have to be confiscated :) The valuable contributions you've made to the wiki gives me enough faith to have you as an admin, also being part of the WAG. Let me know if you need any help, there are a few extra options for you in the special pages Peter

Be a bit careful with the rollback option - it doesn't just rollback the last change, but all changes by that user. I got caught the other day with this - made a simple mistake on a page where the last 10 edits were by me. Rollback got rid of all my edits, and I ended up with a stub article 12 months old! :( --Twz 13:50, 2 February 2008 (EST)
Not sure how you managed that, maybe a bug in an older mediawiki version? I've done a few rollback tests on another wiki and can't replicate this issue, could you detail further? Peter 14:51, 2 February 2008 (EST)
Twz, LOL. Peter, I've been doing some reading up (to learn about each action) and it seems to be the intended action - Rollback will "revert all top consequent edits made by last editor". Also, if you're trying to drop the AP "tag", have you tried settings your nickname in the 'my preferences' page? It seemed to replace the ~~~~ using the nickname over username --Scott T 15:03, 2 February 2008 (EST)
I can't change the username, but the nickname replaces the realname, My username is Aussiepete, my real name is Peter, my nickname is M*Pete, so this is what it signs: M*Pete - I don't think i can change my username, you need database access or an addon to change it.
