Oh noes, my change broke it in IE

My change from earlier tonight (in where i made the common settings panel into a table to give it a cleaner layout) has broken the floating in IE and now the content div's have moved underneath the right hand panels. Can someone please help me out with fixing this at some time? - DedDerek 22:24, 11 February 2008 (EST)

I fixed this (I think) by removing the words "primary" and "secondary", and reducing the cellpadding and cellspacing. --Twz 15:17, 12 February 2008 (EST)
Yes it now shows properly in IE6 again. Thanks Twz :) - DedDerek 16:38, 12 February 2008 (EST)
Just noticed there seems to also be an issue with IE7 and the "Top Contributors" title too, probably related to the negative margin? --Scott T 17:38, 12 February 2008 (EST)
The problem seems to be that when you include Special:ContributionScores it starts with <p><br /></p>. I tried adding a NoBlanks class to common.css to hide these in IE, then use <div style="float:left;margin:0;padding:0;" class="NoBlanks"> {{Special:ContributionScores}} </div> - but it made little difference. I'm giving up for now --Twz 19:30, 12 February 2008 (EST)
After about 30 minutes of playing with it, I appear to have fixed the problem (at least in IE6) by using a table for the heading and making the table act as a container for the contributor table. I know tables aren't the supposed to be used for layout but it was the only option in this case :( - DedDerek 20:45, 12 February 2008 (EST)
It'll probably do for now. The markup on that page is a mess regardless. Also, Korske's Wiki-news title is also in a table but not within a <tr><td></td></tr> block at this stage either but doing so messes with the cell spacing/padding :s --Scott T 20:54, 12 February 2008 (EST)

New Main Page

I've added the new contributions extension and placed some info on a dummy main page. http://wiki.jumba.com.au/index.php?title=Main_Page/new Any comments/ideas? --Korske

The contribution scores are a bit scary! Great idea (I think :/) --Twz 18:03, 4 February 2008 (EST)
I think it helps to give some recognition to the people who put a lot of their time into helping this Wiki and everyone who uses it. It'd be nice to show them on the Main Page -- Joel Wigley 10:57, 5 February 2008 (EST)
The Contributions extension gives weight to the number of edits, not the quantity of text added. So maybe it would encourage people to make lots of tiny edits, rather than adding good solid content. I wouldn't want it to become a competition between contributors. Still, as long as it's only used as an indication of who is contributing I think it's good. --Twz 21:18, 6 February 2008 (EST)

Old stuff

Can we get the main page centered?

I wouldn't know what reason for - no other page is centered. Aussiepete
Yes I made it centered but Adam changed it back. I think it's better left aligned anyway.

I changed it back because it looked silly on wider/bigger monitors. :)

I agree, it did look odd centered Aussiepete

Redirect Main Page?

What do you think of the idea of renaming this page to Welcome and redirecting Main Page to Welcome? - a page title of "Welcome" or "Welcome to the Jumba Wiki" would be friendlier than "Main Page" --Twz 01:39, 26 June 2007 (EST)

I remember reading somewhere that the setup of the wiki can change so the Main_Page link can be changed to default to Welcome or Home or whatever you want. Rather then redirecting it. I'll look into it further and definitely thing it's worth consideration. Pretty much all wikis have Main Page but it's not a strict requirement or anything. I think "Welcome" or "Home" or "Launchpad" or "Index". Aussiepete 15:49, 26 June 2007 (EST)

Cleanup ideas

I have an idea. One main concern with the main page is that when you edit it, it looks crazy and daunting possibly steering users away from editing. Maybe the page could be protected from editing to just admins OR be a bunch of templates, so the code for the main page if you click edit will simply look like this:

<noinclude>This page is protected from editing. To suggest changes, please use the discussion page.</noinclude>

{{main welcome}}
{{main rightpanel}}
{{main links}}
{{main featured}}
{{main popular}}
{{main collaboration}}

Although this is a nice idea, I think it would confuse people just as much as tables. I've been thinking (as one of the main wiki-table detractors) that this is not so important any more. My main objection to tables was that it puts people off editing, but I'll concede that sometimes tables are the best option. If tables scare some people off, they can just leave a suggestion on the talk page. --Twz 23:16, 26 June 2007 (EST)
