Talk:Jumba Forum Polls
From JumbaWiki
General
Page added. I'm glad I don't have to do that ever again! Hopefully others will find this interesting too. I've left out a few self-interest polls (threads 1200, 1201, 1202, 1203) and also thread 2207 which was "Who thinks Aussiepete needs a life?". Maybe that one should be added, as long as there's not a similar one about me!! --Twz 16:46, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- You've dug yourself a hole with this one, keeping it up to date :) It's hard enough keeping this one up to date: Jumba Forums. Aussiepete 21:23, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- It shouldn't be too bad. Just need to update the "current" polls and add new ones as they happen. If someone votes on an old poll it doesn't really matter if this page is not updated --Twz 21:42, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- Once we can get the *** version updated on the MediaWiki, I'll add sortable columns so we can sort by votes, title, date etc at will. This also goes wit ha bunch of other data tables. Aussiepete 21:45, 21 June 2007 (EST)

Another poll (thread 4462) I don't think should be included - it was never intended to be a poll and I think is meaningless --Twz 00:24, 27 June 2007 (EST)
Aaargh! This was going to be a simple article, easy to maintain because polls didn't happen that often. There seems to be a recent Poll frenzy on the forums - maybe it was caused by the very existence of this page!? --Twz 13:55, 5 July 2007 (EST)
- haha, you started it... I think some of these other polls are a bit silly really... the perosnal or "fun' ones probably don't need to be on the list. But for completeness I guess you have to now. Aussiepete 14:27, 5 July 2007 (EST)
- Well, yes :(. I don't think we need to include every poll (eg several dodgy ones mentioned above) - especially the latest "what's for lunch" one by Angelo (4559) which was obviously tampered with and closed prematurely! Some of the other fun ones are interesting though, and worth including. --Twz 14:40, 5 July 2007 (EST)
Definitely a poll frenzy yesterday. More polls not added to the list: threads 4569, 4572. Maybe we could add "How many animals" (thread 4567) later, depending on responses. Given that not all polls are added, I might review the current list and get rid of a few more - especially ones where only 1 or 2 people voted. Currently all polls not added to the list are mentioned on this discussion page, but I might add a section to the article listing the others - just the thread id - for completeness. --Twz 17:29, 6 July 2007 (EST)
Removed some more polls from the list (trivial / lack of interest) - threads 245, 800-807, 811, 813, 1026, 1287, 1360, 1406, 1615. --Twz 20:38, 9 July 2007 (EST)
Removed from list: thread 4221 (now restricted or deleted) Would you pay extra for 24/7 support? 63 responses, result=No --Twz 18:39, 11 September 2007 (EST)
New polls not listed: Thread 5647 8/12/07 - What can i do to get my Nvidia Quadro FX 1100 fan fixed/replaced? Thread 5720 17/12/07 - What do you think of "Waeger Technology"? --Twz 14:34, 1 January 2008 (EST)
Table borders
I think the table needs borders (preferable 1px) so you can easily scan across. Wasn't sure how to do this with wiki-table syntax. Might be ok with border="1" if you also add cellpadding="2" or something? Alternating background colour would be nice, but harder to maintain --Twz 21:48, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- yeah that was a typo, I didn't mean to do that. I've added the wikitable class which I think looks quite nice. I have seen a way to alternate table colorus also. Maybe we need to list a bunch of things in a todo list somewhere on the WAG page. Aussiepete 22:44, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- Actually my comment was made after the wikitable fix. I still think we need lines along each row. Can we define another table class something like table.rows td { border-bottom:1px solid #ccc; }? We could use table border="1" rules="rows" - but I don't think that works in Safari. And maybe 2 more classes for alternating colours td.oddrow {background-color:#eee;} td.evenrow {background-color:#ddd;} (I haven't tested those colours - just explaining the concept) --Twz 23:24, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- I just found Common.css - I'll have a closer look at the css tomorrow - might be a class already there to do this --Twz 23:44, 21 June 2007 (EST)
- it appears all fine to me, but yes go for your life with the common.css spot to make changes. Aussiepete 00:09, 22 June 2007 (EST)
- Did you change the css? I just hit ctrl-F5 and it works for me now. Before it was just like a white borderless table. All good --Twz 00:17, 22 June 2007 (EST)

Article relevance and proposal for changes
I'm still on the fence with the actual use or relevance of this "article" or list, not that's it's a bad direction. I think it still needs something, some ideas I'm thinking are to have all options and their percentages for the info to make more sense, questions or keywords in answers can be linked to associated articles on the wiki, and instead of being ordered by date, it would be more useful having it sorted by topic (eg. Hosting, Broadband, Domains, Web Design/Development, Jumba, Wiki, Movies, Personal, Miscellaneous). Aussiepete 13:19, 5 July 2007 (EST)
- I agree it's not really relevant to anything - just a community interest thing. I'm not keen on adding too much more to the page - including all the options would make the page VERY messy and much harder to view and maintain. There's no way this page can show the complete picture, it's just a quick look at past polls. People will (and should) need to visit the forums to get accurate details. We already have the disclaimer saying "some were close, others a landslide". --Twz 13:43, 5 July 2007 (EST)
