SMTP
From JumbaWiki
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the standard protocol for sending emails over the Internet.
Setting your SMTP server
When using an email account linked to your Jumba hosting account it is recommended you set the outgoing mail (SMTP) server to that of your ISP.
Some of the reasons for this recommendation are:
- If there is an outage on your server, and you need to send Jumba a support request by email, you can't!
- It counts the data twice. Once when you send it from your email client to the server, then again when it sends it out from the server to it's destination.
- ISP's mail servers are (usually) far more robust and setup for better spam filtering.
- If your home computer has a virus or Trojan causing excessive amount of mail to be sent out, it bogs down our server (not to mention a shedload of data being counted towards your usage, and possible account suspension for excessive CPU usage).
