MS-DOS (short for MicroSoft Disk Operating System) is an operating system created by Microsoft in 1981. MS-DOS was the most popular and widely used operating system in the DOS family. MS-DOS had eight major versions before Microsoft stopped the development in 2000. It was the key product in Microsoft's growth, providing the company with revenue and essential marketing services.
