What is a wiki?

A Wiki is server software that allows users to freely create and edit web page content using any web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.

The first wiki (WikiWikiWeb) was developed in the mid-1990s. The word "wiki" is a Hawaiian word meaning "quick." Wiki systems are therefore designed so that their content can be made available in a quick and uncomplicated manner.
